A visit to Yolmo

A couple of days ago on 1st May 2022, I visited Tiger Cave Lion Fortress, the practice site of Milarepa in Yolmo. This came about due to my good dharma friend Khenpo Rinpoche Tsultrim Namdak. He said, “If you have the time, would you come to Tiger Cave Lion Fortress for a retreat? If that’s not possible, how about just coming for a visit? We can place a golden pinnacle ornament above a stone image of Milarepa and say prayers together for the advancement of the precious Practice Lineage.”

For a long time now I have longed to do retreat at this sacred site. But having spent my time in constant busyness with nothing to show for it, I have been unable to go. But on this occasion, rejoicing in the pure intentions of my dharma friend holds for the Practice Lineage, I agreed immediately. Disregarding the other things I needed to attend to, I made my way to this sacred site. We sang songs of Milarepa, recited prayers and aspiration and made a smoke offering to the protectors of the Practice Lineage.

Although I didn’t have the fortune to do retreat on this occasion, through the auspices of Khenpo Rinpoche, a lady who owns land at the site gave me a plot to build a couple of retreat houses. This prospect filled me with joy and I thought I should build them without delay.

Personally, I always carry a deep longing to practise in secluded places.
Those who are close to my heart, the khenpos, tulkus, spiritual friends and retreat lamas of Thrangu Gompa, the few individuals of Kagyu Samye Ling with whom I have a relationship of faith and samaya, and my few friends in other regions around the world, I hope and pray that we can meet again and again in such pleasant and secluded places as this.
