What makes us jaded
The texts often talk about ‘jaded practitioners’ but what is it that makes us jaded? It is when we have heard so much Dharma and have taken it to be so easy but have done nothing to change our ways. It is when we have said so many prayers that we have not put our heart into, that we stop having a feeling for what we are doing but are just going through the motions. It is when we have become blasé about the whole thing. Just like when some children have been being scolded so often that they don’t care anymore, it goes in one ear and straight out the other. They’ve become impervious to it. This is how it is for jaded practitioners. And the texts teach us that once we have become jaded, we will find it very hard to meet the Dharma in future lives. So it really is disastrous.
